St. Pierre and Miquelon

... is one of France's five collectivités d'outre–mer (overseas collectivities) – along with French Polynesia (a group of Pacific islands that includes Tahiti), Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin (both in the Caribbean) and Wallis and Futuna (three small islands in the Pacific Ocean). As its names implies, it consists of two small islands; they are off the tip of the Burin Peninsula, which extends into the Gulf of St. Lawrence from the south coast of Newfoundland. The peninsula and the islands partly define the extremity of the Gulf, beyond which is the Atlantic Ocean.

Miquelon is the larger of the two islands, and is in two parts – Grande Miquelon and Petite Miquelon – joined by a tombolo.
